My dog loved them and I think yours will too. Right before Christmas, I was baking up a storm, trying to get all of my cookies done to bring back to family and friends. And of course, I didn’t want to leave out my family’s little dog, Mochi.
So I baked her some treats too. This is the first time I’ve ever made dog treats and I’m pretty happy with how they turned out. And Mochi really loved them! She got so excited when I fed her one and I think she understood that I made them because she was being extra nice to me during my visit. Normally, when all my siblings are home, she spends the least amount of time with me. Our bond isn’t nearly as strong. I was already living in San Diego when my family got her and it was months before we met and I was also deathly afraid of dogs when I first met her. I’ve bought her treats before and she didn’t treat me any different, but this time she was super sweet, making it definitely worth the effort. Since this was for my dog, I was being very, very careful with the ingredients. Organic pumpkin puree, whole wheat flour, brown eggs, and natural peanut butter. Here she is enjoying one of her treats: 2/3 cup pumpkin puree 1/4 cup natural peanut butter 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1. Preheat oven to 350F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking mat. 2. In a bowl of a stand mixer, add pumpkin, peanut butter and eggs and beat with wire whisk attachment on medium high speed until well mixed. Switch to paddle attachment. Gradually add in flour at low speed, until dough comes together. Dough should not be sticky. If it is, add a little more flour. 3. Remove dough and place onto a lightly floured pastry board. Lightly flour your rolling pin and roll out dough until 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut shapes. Re-roll dough scrapes and repeat until all dough is used up. 4. Place dog treats onto baking mat. Bake about 20-25 minutes or until edges turn golden brown. How long you bake will vary on the size of your treats. Let cool completely before storing.
