Such a fun product! Bought it due to so many YouTubers testing out various Popin' Cookin' meals and thought I'd try one as well! I absolutely love these! Some are odd like the hamburger ones, but not terrible. The only downside is how long it takes to come in but other than that I will order again My kid loves these things. You don't need to know Japanese to make this candy lol! Although a YouTube video helped. Had so much fun with this. Deep fried the "donuts" after shaping them (figured it couldn't hurt, especially rather than eating them raw). Fun to make, easy to find directions for in English online, taste wasn't the best, but it was still pretty good! It tastes gross - except the soda. But was fun making it. I got this at Toys R Us. I previously had done a Japanese Popin' Cookin' candy kit that reminded me of this one (Popin' Cookin' Happy Sushi House) so I thought I'd give this a try...

While I did not buy this on Amazon I did try the kit. I'm going to break this down because there was quite a few points to deal with here. it tastes a bit like medicine but overall it is worth it and delicious I am in love with this set it taste amazing and looks so great Yummy Nummies Bakery Treats - Cookie Creations Maker Yummy Nummies Candy Shop - Gummies Goodies Maker 1.68 oz Yummy Nummies Make-a-Meal Fun Set - Best Ever Burger Maker Yummy Nummies Mini Kitchen Playset - Sundae Maker

We got some Katsu Jerky which we haven’t tried yet, some dried plum cookies, and these Sushi Candy Making Kits. We just about flipped when we saw these things. We were about to film another WTF and we just dropped it to film this. I’m sorry if we’re too excited about this. I remember seeing them online a while ago and thinking how amazing it was, and now finally we got to try it! Unfortunately, it was a bit more challenging than we had anticipated. It’d probably be easier if we read Japanese.
jiro dreams of sushi restaurant menuActually, it’d DEFINITELY be easier if we read Japanese, but where’s the fun in that?

And we learned a lot from it. Namely, we learned how not to royally mess these up next time! It’s really the water balance that’s the most challenging. I messed up at the beginning by putting in the powder first before the water, and that just destroyed my rice. Then I started filling up to the line, and that definitely stopped things from being terrible. But mixing everything is so challenging! It’s such a small little container, with a tiny little spoon, and I’m a grown ass man with big hands: I was making far too much of a mess.
jiro dreams of sushi websiteAnd not only did it show in the final product’s appearance, it also tasted worse than Martina’s. It was all grainy and mealy. Definitely, it was some of the worst candy I had in a long time, but I’m sure if I didn’t mess it up so bad it’d be great. I saw the potential in Martina’s batch. But those little salmon roe: those were delicious!
