The researchers found that ginger's antioxidants had strong scavenging effects, potentially providing crucial protection to your body.

Spring is in full swing and the new menu at Piccolino is ready to showcase the best of the season. Using a wealth of new ingredients from raspberries to lamb, our chefs have created a range of exciting spring dishes for you to get your taste buds around. Piccolino development chef, Francesco Scafuri explains: “After the cold winter months, spring offers a welcome change both in climate and the seasonal produce it brings. The variety of ingredients to choose from in spring is the most extensive and exciting of all the seasons. Heart stews and soups give way to lighter dishes, utilising peas, beans, shoots, crunchy lettuce leaves, spring lamb and the first of the year’s softer fruits. Alfresco dining is very much part of family life in Italy and although the climate in England is not what we would always hope for, our winterised terraces at Piccolino offer an opportunity to benefit from the experience.
When eating alfresco there is nothing better than a simply grilled piece of fresh fish and a crisp leaf salad. A particular favourite of mine is the new Pescespada Salmoriglio; line caught char grilled swordfish with garlic, chilli & lemon.” Here’s a taste of what’s new… This season we say hello to the decadent new Da Dividere (to share) option, Ostriche which offers half dozen freshly shucked Mersea Island rock oysters with lemon. Make sure you also look out for our trio of new antipasti, including; Minestrone Alla Genovese (a classic Italian spring vegetable soup with pesto), Bruschetta Con Fave E Caprino (toasted ciabatta topped with broas beans and goats cheese) and Carpaccio Di Tonno (‘Sashimi Grade,’ thinly sliced tuna, fennel & orange salad). If you’ve filled up on our tasty starters and fancy something light for your main, there’s the new salad option Panzanella Con Gamberoni. These seasonal leafy greens include a tasty mix of Tuscan bread & tomato salad with grilled king prawns.
Why not sink your teeth into our new Capricciosa. This Italian favourite is topped with mushrooms, ham, olives, tomato & basil and baked in our traditional pizza ovens. Or for something a little more adventurous why not try our Salmon Affumicato pizza, which features a lemon mascarpone base topped with Severn & Wye smoked salmon, capers & rocket. Pasta fans will be pleased to see three new dishes on our spring menu; Rigatoni Con Agnello (slow braised lamb & pecorino cheese), Spaghetti Crudaiola E Bottarga (vine cherry tomatoes, black olives, garlic, capers & bottarga) and Ravioli Di Asparagi E Ricotta (asparagus, ricotta, butter, parmesan & toasted almonds). This spring, we also say hello to our popular veggie option Risotto Primavera which offers a tasty mix of spring vegetables and traditional herbs.
