I had read the reviews for the September Issue before I actually went to the theatre and knew it was going to be a cut above the rest. I had no idea, however, it was going to be as insightful and entertaining as it was. You see the inner cogs of Vogue.

You see the extraordinarily intersting working dynamic between Grace Coddington and Anna Wintour. And at risk of being cliché, you see another side of Wintour. You see Anna Wintour the mother, the businesswoman, the artist, the boss, and the socialite. But one side you fail to see, and perhaps it's simply that she never reveals this side, is the side of the confidant and friend. Hands down one of the best documentaries I've ever seen or likely will ever see. That's right...never thought anyone could steal Anna Wintour's thunder? This fascinating docu begins with the story of Anna but the viewer quickly begins to realize who actually runs the magazine. Vogue's creative director Grace Coddington supplies the real artistic muscle that keeps Vogue at the forefront of the fashion world, and she does it using her love for fashion, joy in the creative process, her mentorship of the Vogue Staff, and the battle to keep her artistic integrity. This queen rules with dignity and Grace, (pun intended) much to the opposite of steel-grip Wintour.

See Wintour and Coddington duke-it-out in this fantastic documentary! I found this movie to be irresistible. It's an interesting examination of more than just fashion and the fashion industry, it's a story of two British women who have a great synergy, slightly combative working style. These two women, Anna and Grace, make Vogue what they are today, an organization dedicated to high standards of quality in living and dressing. I loved this movie and I'm not even remotely connected to fashion. I find the study of the organizational culture of Vogue to be fascinating because you have people who have been working together for 20+ years. Anna Wintour may be seen as a cold fish, but in this documentary she comes across as someone who isn't doing the job for the elitism, but rather because she believes in quality in everything she does which happens to be focused on fashion. I think she comes across as a likable person, especially in the scenes with her daugther. I highly recommend this.

Clumsy boys and precocious girls battle their bodies and overcome many personal hurdles to advance to the final round of tango, foxtrot and swing.
