"My boyfriend took me to this place for Valentine's Day because I told him I wanted a pretty view. This place was perfect because it was at the edge of pier 39 with a view of the bay. I've been going to Zushi Puzzle for over 10 years, and it remains a great place for an evening meal. The fish is fresh and service is fast. Really fresh sushi with huge somewhat overwhelming variety. Had 5 different types of yellowtail nigiri and a couple of rolls. Great staff but kind of strange layout with Sushi bar in separate room. Best miso soup ever. Will for sure be back. We put our "lives" in the super capable hands of the Chef and he didn't let us down. I have never ever had such a variety of sushi and sashimi. Only real shame is that it takes 11 hours to fly to San Francisco from Denmark... The food was average. I ordered Alaska roll, toro roll and Ikura roll. Alaska roll was fine, nothing special though. Toro roll was mostly rice with barely any fish in it. It tsted like rice and nothing else.

My Ikura rolls have arrived much later after it has been a while since I had already finished the first two rolls,... Booked 3 of the 7 seats at chef Roger's counter. We chose to be treated to his recommendations as he prepared them. A fun interactive delicious meal, super fresh seafood skilfully prepared the sushi here is so fresh and tasty. And the prices were great! The staff were so warm and friendly and made our experience even better. Also, because it was my birthday, our waitress brought our table free matcha ice cream! To be honest, I found it just ok. I wish I could share a more positive experience but it wasn't. The fish was room temperature which left a light slimy texture. The side dishes (spinach salad and tempura veg) were good but only small amounts provided. The ice tea had no refills and the hot tea was slightly warmer than... We've spent most of our visits to San Francisco at the Coventry Motor Inn and didn't realize a very good Japanese restaurant was right across the street.

Fish was fresh, service was friendly and efficient. Walked in at 5 p.m., but started filling up quickly. Best sushi we've had in a long time, and among the best we've had outside Japan. Incredibly fresh, and accommodating for Celiacs/gluten free. The toro, uni, and Japanese saba were absolutely terrific.
