I purchased this specific item because I wanted to try this popular oil without spending too much.

I was worried that with all it's benefits it might not taste good, or might add unwanted flavor to my food. That just wasn't the case. I was happy to discover that besides containing vitamin E and other antioxidants, this oil is very mild. Everything I have cooked with this has tasted wonderful.However, there is a discrepancy in this product listing that you should be aware of. It states that this has a smoke point of 490 degrees (about 254 degrees Celsius), but the label states a significantly LOWER smoke point of only 230 degrees Celsius, equal to 446 degrees Fahrenheit.Which to believe? Amazon's disclaimer warns against relying on the information in listings and refers us to product labels. Why does it matter? Heating an oil past it's smoke point generates free radicals and toxic fumes and should not be consumed. It is my understanding that many who use this oil do so because they want an oil with a high smoke point for the type of cooking they do. If this is your desire, please be aware that this item has a lower smoke point than others like it.

For example, an alternative brand, also offered on Amazon, is California Rice Oil Company. They do claim a 490 degree smoke point on both their label and website (I haven't used their oil yet so I can only comment on the smoke point).
