Ramen Eatery Samurai Papa to Open New Bed-Stuy Outpost By Camille Bautista | October 13, 2015 8:50am@CamBautista A new Samurai Papa location will open on Lafayette Avenue near Nostrand Avenue on Oct. 16, the owner said. BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — Ramen lovers can get their fill this fall with a new noodle shop opening on Lafayette Avenue.Samurai Papa, a popular Bushwick ramen shop, is expanding Friday with a new location near the corner of Nostrand Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant.Owner Makoto Suzuki will offer a variety of pork buns, fried chicken, soba noodles and ramen at the 594 Lafayette Ave. eatery. The 400-square-foot restaurant will be standing-room only, Suzuki said, with space for about 15 diners who can chow down at Samurai Papa’s counters.Just in time for soup season, the owner plans to bring a pour-over-style “Bukkake” ramen to the neighborhood, similar to the menu options at the original 32 Varet St. location.“Definitely, ramen is booming,” Suzuki said. “People want to come to Brooklyn for something else and I’m always looking to give the experience.”
The new Samurai Papa spot marks the expansion of Suzuki’s restaurants, which include udon noodle outpost Samurai Mama, Japanese tapas lounge bozu, Momo Sushi Shack and café Brooklyn Ball Factory. While the Lafayette Avenue location won’t offer the “sushi shots” (sushi combos of roe, salmon and seaweed served in shot glasses) seen at the Bushwick eatery, the owner plans on serving meatball bento boxes when lunch service debuts.Suzuki will also test out a new policy seen at more and more restaurants across the city — implementing a “no-tipping” system to balance out the duties and wages received by employees, he said.Samurai Papa will open on Oct. 16., serving dinner Monday through Sunday from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m.Samurai PapaToday's hours12:00pm - 10:30pmThe Zagat Review Ramen is the specialty at these compact siblings to Samurai Mama, also turning out a creative roster of other casual Japanese eats; the Williamsburg original adds sushi to the mix, while the standing-room only Bed-Stuy spin-off offers an abbreviated menu served over a bar.
