We mentioned in our Bibimbap post how we were having our friends from Japan visiting us, and – boy – we need to have them visit us on a weekly basis, because they brought back some awesome stuff. We got some Katsu Jerky which we haven’t tried yet, some dried plum cookies, and these Sushi Candy Making Kits.
We just about flipped when we saw these things. We were about to film another WTF and we just dropped it to film this. I’m sorry if we’re too excited about this. I remember seeing them online a while ago and thinking how amazing it was, and now finally we got to try it! Unfortunately, it was a bit more challenging than we had anticipated. It’d probably be easier if we read Japanese. Actually, it’d DEFINITELY be easier if we read Japanese, but where’s the fun in that? Being confused is a wonderful feeling! And we learned a lot from it. Namely, we learned how not to royally mess these up next time! It’s really the water balance that’s the most challenging. I messed up at the beginning by putting in the powder first before the water, and that just destroyed my rice. Then I started filling up to the line, and that definitely stopped things from being terrible. But mixing everything is so challenging! It’s such a small little container, with a tiny little spoon, and I’m a grown ass man with big hands: I was making far too much of a mess.
And not only did it show in the final product’s appearance, it also tasted worse than Martina’s. It was all grainy and mealy. Definitely, it was some of the worst candy I had in a long time, but I’m sure if I didn’t mess it up so bad it’d be great. I saw the potential in Martina’s batch. But those little salmon roe: those were delicious! I didn’t mess up any of those, nuh uh! And they tasted like Japanese candy. Distinctly like Japanese fruity candy. I don’t know how to describe the taste. I just remember the taste from some Meiji (sp?) candy that someone sent us before. It has that taste distinctly. Anyhow, I’ll stop being excited about this product now. We had lots of fun and I recommend you try it if you haven’t already. If you have, how did your batch go? Did you know Japanese when you did it? Did yours taste mealy as well? We also got a Takoyaki Candy ball set, but that one requires a microwave, I think. Maybe we should get a microwave and make it. Umm, I’m sure we can use the microwave for other things.
Though, you know, we’ve gone almost 7 years now without a microwave and we’re doing just fine. Microwaves are overrated, but – in this case – I’m convinced to get one just for this candy. banzai sushi online Popin' cookin candy kits by Kraciejual sushi online tangerang The Do-It-Yourself candy kits made by Kracie are so clever and ridiculously awesome. buy yo sushi franchiseThey make fantastic stocking stuffers at Christmastime for children of all ages. sushi conveyor belt jakartaParents would even get a kick out of them, if I may say so myself. sushi conveyor belt san diego
