Tallahassee is the capital city of Florida, the United States. It is an inland city in the Florida Panhandle. In addition to the state government, it is a university town, housing the 1993, 1999, and 2013 National Champion Florida State University [1] and Florida A&M University [2]. Tallahassee has a good selection of restaurants for a city of its size. The universities' theater, art, and music programs, in addition to an active Council of Culture and Arts [3], also make for an unusually vibrant arts scene. Tallahassee may be in Florida, but that does not always mean its warm. Beacause of its Northern Panhandle location, winters in Tallahassee have cold nights with cool days (lows in 30s F, highs in 60s F), so be sure to pack some coats and scarves. Lows of 10 degrees F is not uncommon in January, and the coldest temperature in the city is -2 degrees F. Snow is stil rare;

usually it is dry, clear cold. However, it can be warm or even hot (as hot as 88 degrees F in January or February). Summers are hot, and humidity can make temperatures quite unbearable. Summers average in the 90s F while nighttime lows average in the upper 60s to lower 70s F. Temperatures will often surpass 100 F, and when added with humidity, can be a nasty mix. Fall and Spring is mild. There are non-stop flights to Tallahassee Municipal Airport from several cities: Atlanta, Charlotte, DFW, Fort Lauderdale, Memphis, Miami, Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach. Tallahassee is not as pedestrian-friendly as some cities. Some areas of the city are more conducive for walking than others. Downtown, Midtown and Lake Ella are probably the most picturesque and convenient for walking. Tallahassee’s public bus system is known as STAR Metro, [5]. The full schedule typically runs from about 6am to 7 or 8pm during the week and about 7am to 7pm on Saturdays. Routes and hours are limited after 7pm and on Sundays.

To get anywhere other than Downtown or one of the university campuses typically requires at least one transfer. There are several taxi companies serving Tallahassee. Outside of the airport there are not many taxi stands around the city, so it is better to call and arrange for a pick-up.
