Its summer time, which means a delightful trip to London is in order, a gift to myself and a post-Ramadan & Eid ritual. The basis of every trip to London consists of one premise, Shopping! It is my shopping mecca, where trends, styles and collections can be found to suit absolutely anyones taste.  As a little girl, my mother used to take me along on shopping trips where I would enthusiastically act as her mini consigliere.  Several of those memories took place at London’s beloved Harvey Nichols. I remember my mother trying on Alaia outfits, shopping for suede boots and explaining the importance of skincare and grooming in the beauty department, followed by, either lunch or afternoon tea on the Fifth Floor, where mummy would bump into her lady friends. I would sit quietly eating scones in my little dresses watching these glamorous women chit chat, admiring their outfits, accessories and make up. Summer trips to London eventually stretched out into uni years in the capital, where I found myself back at good ol’ Harvey Nicks for shopping and sushi!

After following her work the last few seasons, I can safely call myself a fan of Roksanda Ilincic’s new collection. Her long skirts are dream-like, made of rich fabric but with patterns that emulate modern chic. The skirt I chose is quite a powerful piece, so it’s only fair to honour its magnificence by keeping the top half timeless and classy. I went for a simple Valentino black top and a black fluffy fur gilet to add extra glam. If you haven’t heard of Mark Ross, well now you have (thank you Tamara), his mini trunk handbags are as adorable as they are chic and match beautifully with Charlotte Olympia ‘Orbital Pomelines’. Anyone who knows me, knows that an outfit isn’t finished unless there’s a headpiece involved.  In this case, I discovered the majestic embellishment that is Deepa Gurnani. I was pleasantly astounded when I downloaded the new smartphone/iphone app and discovered that I was eligible to huge discounts as well as new collection first peeks just because I had the app. Every penny spent at Harvey Nicks (including the cafes and salon) equate to points which add up and unlock more perks. I can’t contain myself. You have to download it to see for yourself. If it couldn’t get better, it most certainly did.  While I was at the store, I was also kindly informed about VIP Premier Tax Free service. Now, if you are anything like me, you will have a mountain of receipts and VAT refunds collected at the end of your London trip. Unfortunately this means a VAT frenzy before your flight heading back to the Middle East. Often times, even if I have actually organised all the receipts in advance, I will arrive at the airport only to depressingly find a massive cue, and risk missing my flight if I go ahead with getting the tax back on the barrage of receipts bursting out of my bag.
