Only went there twice - OK experience. Noticed 2 weeks ago that the business was GONE. No info on what happened or when. I've eaten here many times and have never had a bad experience. The best service and the freshest seafood. We had an average sushi dinner, about what you might expect given the distance to major fish markets. The service was a bit haphazard and not particularly congenial. The nigiri was pretty perfunctory, just slabs of inartfully cut, not so fresh fish on rice. The room is pleasant enough, but uncertain of its intent. There seems to be a pastiche... We stopped in at UMI Sushi in Ashland, OR for dinner to specifically try their Chicken Teriyaki. We were surprised when the Chicken Teriyaki came on a cast iron plate that was so hot the oil was still bubbling, somewhat like what you get when you order Steak Fajita at a Mexican restaurant. The exterior really draws you in with the interesting front door and beautifully decorated interior. Not only is the food delicious and well prepared but the service is outstanding. Our waiter was very attentive and checked back frequently so... We've eaten here several times and the only consistent feature is that the servers have always been new and not too "with it." They were friendly this time and the sushi was good but there were too many mix ups and service errors to rate Umi on the food alone. It seems apparent that there are some management issues since... I had the bento box with the salmon teriyaki and the california roll. Miso soup was served too cold and one person in our party got their entree way too early. Service was too slow. We were able to sit out on the river, while having great sushi, great service and it was awesome! Really nice sitdown resturante, delisious sushi and shasmi. They serve cucumber water instead of plain water, you can get plain water if you ask.
