Whether we’re trying to lose weight or simply trying to eat a healthier diet, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information out there. It feels like there's a new 'miracle' diet emerging every few months. Joe Wicks, 30, known to his 479k Instagram followers as The Body Coach, aims to cut through the noise. He spoke to the Telegraph about his programme, the 90-Day SSS Plan and the fitness and healthy eating myths that he’d like to dispell. Girls tend to really fear fats and cut them out straight away. You need to eat them in moderation. Starting your day with eggs cooked in coconut oil accompanied by some salmon and avocado is a really good way of ensuring your body gets the calories it needs. When at rest, we’re burning fat for fuel so give your body what it needs - just don’t smash the sugars and carbs all day. The reason there are so many of these diets is because they don’t work. People have to go back to them every single year because they're not sustainable.

How can you possibly say that a bottle of juice is healthier than eating a bowl of cauliflower, spinach and broccoli? People buy into them because they want a short cut and spend their last penny on these diets because they think they’re going to get lean - but really they’re not. They don’t work because you’re starving yourself and not getting enough food. The minute you start eating properly again you regain all of the fat that you lost. If I go to the gym at 9pm and I want to eat a bowl of rice, then I’m going to eat a bowl of rice. After high-intensity training your body is depleted of glycogen (a stored form of carbohydrate) and it needs more sugars. The time has no effect: your body doesn’t know that it’s 7pm or 5am. People think that in order to burn fat they need to create a massive calorie deficit, so they eat 1200 calories a day and they lose 7lbs in seven days. But when you do eat, your body thinks, 'oh you’ve just given me a meal so I’m going to store every ounce of it because you might not feed me for another week'.

You only need to create a tiny calorie deficit through nutrition and exercise. The more you exercise, the more you can eat - within reason. Do a session in the morning and then you can enjoy more food throughout the day and not feel depressed because you’re starving hungry and just eating rice cakes. Don’t fear underactive thyroid and PCOS: you can still burn fat and have a healthy body even if you have that. If you are exercising, you’ve still got to be sensible with what you eat and monitor your fat, protein and carbs. You need to eat in line with your energy demands. It’s about learning to eat a little bit more on a training day and less on a rest day. You have to imagine that you’re an engine: you wouldn’t drive to Brighton on half a tank, but you wouldn’t fill the tank up if you’re just going around the shops. Walk away from everything with the word ‘diet’ on the end of it. If you can’t see yourself doing it for longer than a year or two years then you’re wasting your time.

Ditch the diets and throw away the fad stuff. If you eat the right stuff at the right time then your body will be much happier.
