Its food is more ambitious than the usual neighbourhood fare (which I sometimes love, but it can be difficult to distinguish between one restaurant and another). Whereas with most Indian takeaways I stick to the same script every time (chicken rogan josh, garlic naan, sag aloo), at Babur there’s so much great stuff I mix it up a lot. Three dishes I’ve really liked are the clove-smoked lamb chops, vegetarian thali and the pan-seared stone bass with fennel chutney.’ Where does it deliver to? Within a five-mile radius of its Honor Oak restaurant. By Will Beckett, co-owner of Hawksmoor. Ganapati South Indian Kitchen ‘This is an incredible South Indian restaurant that has finally opened a separate takeaway.

The first thing that I shout down the phone in my excitement is my order for the crab thoran. It’s a warming, light dish of fresh crabmeat, fried with onions, chunks of fresh ginger, coconut and curry leaves, served with a spiced yogurt chutney. It’s one of my favourite dishes in London, even if I am slightly allergic to crab. I will put up with the itchy face for this brilliant dish!’Within a two-mile radius of its Peckham restaurant.

By Anna Hansen, head chef at The Modern Pantry. ‘I’ve been ordering from these guys for the past year. I saw them mentioned on Twitter and I gave them a go. Their curries are flavoursome and cooked fresh, with minimal grease. I always get the prawn puri under the starters menu: massive, fat, delicious prawns on top of a chewy flatbread. Another great dish is the murgh madurai. When they says it’s hot, it really is freaking hot, but not gratuitously so.’Across south and west London, check their website for details. By Lizzie Mabbott, blogger at Hollow Legs. Yak & Yeti - Crystal Palace ‘This is a fantastic Nepalese restaurant in the Crystal Palace triangle. The traditional dishes are what make me come back every time. To start, I gor for the lamb mo mo (Nepalese stuffed pancakes): so much so that I sometimes order two portions. For mains, I’m currently loving the holy basil chicken, which is a great balance of heat, warming ginger and the freshness of tulsi leaves (Nepalese basil), but if I want a spice-tastic hit, I go for the jhaneko duck, which is marinated with garlic, ginger, red onion, peppers and fenugreek.’
