As featured in Seeing Cape Town with the Welshman Amazingly cooked japanese food at this authentic high-end classy Asian restaurant - classic, fresh and light dishes , small yes - but still filling and tasteful ! Drinks also very Japanese and light and fitting the menu and style Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Wide variety on menu including essential whisky! Worth the additional cost. Probably the best Japanese restaurant in Cape Town. The sushi is particularly good. Very fresh, lots of variety with interesting choices. I have been several times and have nothing but good to report. You have their attention from the minute you arrive until you leave. Beautiful food and a great atmosphere. Cant wait to go back but be sure to make reservations - they're extremely popular! This is not a regular sushi place, but more a Japanse style restaurant. They offer some sushi, but more other dishes. We had miso soup as starter, this was one of the best miso soups I ate in my life.
The soup was full with mushrooms and soja. The handroll with crab was good, crab was not really fresh, but... Last night I was euphoric at the experience of this restaurant. I travel extensively and classify myself as an experienced ' food ' journalist amongst my other Showbiz areas. So I often arrive slightly jaded and with too many expectations. This didn't disappoint in the slightest . In fact I was blown away by the freshness of the fish, the... We were staying locally and fancied sushi, this was the closes to our guest-house according to TripAdvisor. We turned up without a booking and they were able to seat us, we even got a room pretty much to ourselves. We started with cocktails - highly reccomend the dirty ninja saketini! We then had tempura scallops with miso and the tempura... A silly pretence for real Japanese food. Tiny portions of poor quality at exorbitant prices. We were satisfied with the service and thought it was good for Cape Town. We loved the interior of the restaurant and found the atmosphere relaxing.
Upside: Pretty amazing Japanese food; LOVED the real McCoy wasabi (that lingering taste is something else); great cocktails and Japanese whisky! Downside: Price difference between restaurant menu and website menu (eg on website R95 for Nikka in the Barrel; about R95+R100 in restaurant); format and state of menus (given this is one of SA's top Asian... I live just down the road from the sushi house who have been in Obs for years. It is cosy for when there is two of you, great to go to when you alone. Great sushi an the prices are reasonable. Service is great defiantly a place to visit when you want to pop 10 min away from town. I talk a walk around the area at night looking for a spot to eat. At night, given the appearance of the building from the outside, you would be forgiven for thinking this wasn't the greatest eating spot around, but once inside you find a bar style conveyor belt full of Sushi to tease your tastebuds, and several little rooms... This remains a gem and the whole vibe is great, day or night.
Food was great, service very good and we will be back. “What a Little Gem” We came with our 2 toddler boys and sat at the revolving sushi bar. Background music was fun Sushi addicts in Cape Town have told me to visit for two years now and I'm glad I did. Fresh, unique, tasty sushi that did not disappoint! Delicious, good service, good wine choices, great pricing. 3 hungry adults ordered three platters and a soup each and struggled to finish bountiful portions of fish. I was a bit nervous when driving into the area but once inside the atmosphere was friendly and the sushi looked good. The sushi was fresh and well priced. I found the portions of there curries on the smaller side but they are priced accordingly. Overall good value for money 1890's sushi is always beautifully made and presented, very reasonably priced and very, very fresh. The tuna is blood red, the salmon a bright coral - it really is delicious. The service is quick and friendly and everyone is happy to help (no one says they'll call 'your' waitress - they just get you what you need which I really...Caz Rd in cape town. Please be careful out there!Olya KiriluktoUberLast night I ordered an Uber from Kloof Street to Newlands at 1am. The driver decided to go through Woodstock, which I was not happy about. I asked him to take ...the M3 rather as its a safer and quicker route. He then accused me of not knowing where I’m going as I’m a foreigner. He refused to take the route I requested and instead drove me back to town and chucked me out the car at Grand Parade (which is NOT safe for a female on her own at this time of the morning). When I tried to take a photograph of him and the car he knocked my phone out my hands causing it to fall and damage the screen. He then drove off with my bag still in the car!!!! I tried to seek help from Policemen nearby who also refused to assist me. Today, I managed to get hold of the driver and requested he give me back my bag, after lengthy talks with him he finally agreed to bring me the bag.
To top it all off he wanted me to give him petrol money to drop off my own bag! I am DISGUSTED that I have been treated this way by an Uber driver and even more horrified that I reported this too Uber through the APP more that 12 hours ago and have had NO response from Uber! I have been using Uber regularly since it first came out and as a loyal customer I want a FULL refund for the trip which I was charged for, for Uber to pay for my phone to be fixed and this driver to be REMOVED as a partner driver. Please can someone contact me URGENTLY to resolve this.
