Menus and drinks appeared quickly. Our order came out in wave form - which I like - so we all tucked in and shared each platter. Very happy with the quality of the sushi and sashimi. Waitress was helpful and had no issue with us tweaking some of the platter stuff - we requested no omelette or squid and this was not a problem.

House wine was nice and the saki was a bit of fun, not my cup of tea but something a little different. We tried some weird dessert - I can't remember the name but it was described as Japanese Turkish delight. I was the only one that liked it, an acquired taste. We were all very content with Michie. Will go back again. Reviewed 14th December 2012 (visited 13 December 2012) At 9pm last night I called to book a table for Michie Sushi as I had heard good things about it from a friend. I was told by a youngish girl on the phone that the kitchen closes at 10pm and I said that was no problem, we would be there well before that. She said "you'd wanna be here by ten to 10 as thats when last orders are taken." I said ok thats fine. We got into the car in Howth, and when we were on Camden Street we got a call (at exactly 9:45 I might add) asking where we were. My boyfriend's number was the one I gave so he spoke to the caller. They told us we wouldn't make it on time and not to come. We were 2 minutes away.

I was so annoyed. In this economy, it's the restaurants that are adding little touches and giving that little bit more to entice and to keep customers. The ones that have not rolled with the punches are the ones we read about that are closing. Guess which category I think Michie Sushi falls into? And I didn't even get to go there... The sushi was disappointingly bland - the sashimi consisted of tuna and salmon, that's it - the two most boring sashimis. The soba was what you'd cook yourself. It was all just about adequate, but not at all like even a cheap sushi restauarnt in Japan. But the atmosphere was what really diminished the experience.

People kept trotting hurriedly in and out, ordering and collecting takeaways, leaving doors open, sitting on stools staring at those of us in the seats. Like a yuppie chippers, but without the amusing cameraderie. The furniture was cheap and hard and uncomfortable, the lighting and decor was bright and luminous. Having said all that, the staff were friendly, helpful and efficient - plenty of green tea. And the cost wasn't unreasonable at all. My usual sushi dining partner came with to get two opinions...We walked in and as expected with a place with capacity for 20 people it's quite cozy, we were seated immediately and furnished with menus by a really pleasant waitress.

After a long look at a very good menu we decided on a large sushi platter to share and we were not disappointed, everything was fresh, tasty and perfectly presented. It was a struggle to finish the whole platter but we gave it our best efforts. While it is a small place it is definitely a favourite of mine from now on! While it is not up to the standard of sushi that you would get in the best restuaruants in Japan, it is the best that you can get in Ireland.

I have tasted th food in most of the Japanese eestablishments in Dublin. I have also eaten in Paris and Yokohama and Tokyo. The food is authentic Japanese not a western variation to cater for local tastes. My son loves the sushi rice, which is excellent. If you like sushi then the large mixed platter is well worth it for two. Also like the chiken katsu curry and the prawns. Worth investigating also is the sake which even though there is only one choice is rather nice, definitely worth going back for. Firstly this restaurant is a hidden gem - down a wee laneway off Ranelagh, its so small it has a sliding door to save on space! The staff are exceptionally nice, and offered me green tea whilst i waited for the food to be ready. The food was yum and such good value: 2 x 6 piece sushi roll, 2 omlette pieces, 2 inari pieces and wasabi and ginger etc all for bargain 9euro.
