Richard Olney’s The French Menu Cookbook is the world’s greatest cookbook, declares a crack team including Jay Rayner and Heat author Bill Buford. It tops a list of the Guardian’s 50 best cookbooks of all time, a compilation that caught our attention as much for whom it excludes as whom it honors. The roundup pays proper homage to some heavy hitters: The top ten includes Elizabeth David’s undeniably marvelous French Provincial Cooking and Simon Hopkinson’s Roast Chicken and Other Stories, Julia Child clocks in at 21, and MFK Fisher holds steady at 47. But where is Thomas Keller? And for that matter, Mark Bittman? The two behemoths of cookbook publishing don’t merit a single spot between them — a notable oversight, given that Keller’s French Laundry Cookbook is at the top of virtually every American cook’s most-inspiring list, and Bittman’s How to Cook Everything basically changed the game for home cookery. We’d blame the fact that it’s a British paper and they’re American authors, but considering that more than half the list’s authors are Yanks, that excuse doesn’t hold water.

At least they had a kind nod for Momofuku, which was criminally overlooked during awards season this year, but just squeaked into the Guardian’s pantheon at No. 50.

sushi online di indonesiaI"ll give you two from SW8 as I lived there for 6 years and there's some great places to eat in and around Stockwell/Vauxhall that you might normally overlook.
jiro dreams of sushi complete movieHot Stuff 19 Wilcox Road, Vauxhall, London, SW8 (020 7720 1480).

It's a curry house that looks like a small cfae. It's BYOB and it's ridiculously cheap. It's also one of the best curry houses in the the whole of London. I"m not just saying that because I used to live near it. /lifea...Canton Arms 77 South Lambeth Road, London SW8 (020 7582 8710)For something a little more flash try the Canton Arms. This used to be a very 'local' try-not-to-look-anyone-in-the-eye kindof place, and gradually it got gentrified until it became south london'd premiere gastropub. It's pricey but worht it. /lifea...My personal favourites:Lemonia - amazing Greek food. Walk up to the top of Primrose Hill afterwards for the best view of London. Nearest tube: Chalk Farm.Asakusa - some of the best Japanese food I've had in London, for really reasonable prices. Very unassuming looking place - but an absolute gem. You'll need to phone up and book in advance. Nearest tube: Mornington Crescent. Mien Tay - great Vietnamese food. The quail is particularly good. Nearest tube is Shoreditch High St Overground, or Old Street.

It's located on Kingsland Road.Rosa's - really nice Thai food in a cool atmosphere. It's near Spitalfields market so make sure you check that out too. Nearest tube Old Street or Liverpool Street. Shibuya - nice little Japanese treasure near King's Cross. Great noodles, really friendly chefs.Ganapati - in newly-hip Peckham. Probably the best Indian food I've ever had - just incredible. Unlike most other Indian restaurants in London. PunjabNot quite off the beaten path but fairly unknown if you're not in the know. I'm no expert on Indian food but I've been told it's very authentic. Authentic or not, I love it.The Punjab - Famous North Indian Restaurant in Covent GardenChez BruceThis will fail your "reasonable prices" criterion but, for the quality of food and service you'll get, it's incredible value for money. Think £70-odd per head for what you'd have to pay £150+ elsewhere.Chez Bruce, Michelin starred restaurant in Wandsworth Common, LondonRubinoIt's a small Italian restaurant in Southfields.

No frills (at all!) but excellent pasta and pizza for lunch and dinner, and sandwidches and salads for lunch.Authentic Italian Restaurant - LondonThe Salt HouseIf I'm allowed to add a pub, definitely try the Salt. Ask for the burger. You shall not regret it.The Salt House NW8 - Abbey RoadThe Primrose EateryIt's a family run restaurant in Primorose Hill. Very tasty food, including excellent breakfasts. The Primrose Eatery | Primrose Hill/Hampstead NW3 | Restaurant & Takeaway | Order NowCiao BellaPossibly the best Italian restaurant in the world, including Italy. Well, probably not, but it's very, very good, excellent value and friendly (Italian talkative-and-might-not-be-in-the-mood style) service.Ciao Bella Restaurant.co.ukI worked in Chiswick for 5 years and there are some great little gems out there if you find yourself in West London (just a couple stops closer to town than Richmond). 1. Faanoos - Chiswick High Road. Incredible Persian cuisine - grilled meat platters, saffron rice, juicy grilled tomatoes, persian bread to mop up the best hummus ever...

I could go on. I've only been to the Chiswick branch but they've actually opened up branches in Ealing and Richmond too, all in West London. 2. Kisaku - Chiswick High Road. Japanese cuisine that deserves to be in the centre of London. Supremely fresh sushi, sashimi, salmon teriyaki, all the usuals. 3. Foxlow - Chiswick by the Post Office. Under the Hawksmoor umbrella, the Foxlow restaurants (others dotted around London) offer Hawksmoor quality meats and sides but for a fraction of the cost. Try the 2-course lunch menu M-F for a reduced rate.4. Yupas Thai - opening Jan2016 in new location at Chiswick W4 3JY. Traditional Thai that tastes just like the dishes from Koh Samui. All the usual curries, rice dishes, prawn crackers and even a mini market of Thai goods in their To-Go section (open for longer hours than the restaurant itself but serves all same dishes). Maybe this isn't exactly off the beaten track - but I walked straight past it a few times without noticing and I don't have any Londoner mates that have eaten there.
